Wholesale solar panels: are they the cheapest?

If you’re in the market for wholesale solar panels, you’re likely trying to save money. We get it—improving your home can have added costs, and a solar energy system is no exception.

While solar is worth the investment, you still may be wondering if wholesale is an option. The short answer? Yes, you can buy wholesale solar panels and install them yourself; however, it’s not always a straightforward process. Some manufacturers do sell discounted solar panels, but it’s unlikely that these panels will be the right equipment for your home.

How do you know if panels are “wholesale”?

In general, wholesale items are often cheaper because they allow you to skip the middleman. Instead of shopping in retail or hiring a professional, you can order supplies directly from the manufacturer, saving you money.

With solar, however, panels are typically sold to either distributors who maintain a close relationship with the manufacturer or authorized resellers. From there, distributors and resellers can build a network of installers they sell their solar equipment to.

This is where homeowners come in. A homeowner can sometimes buy their solar equipment from a local installation company or an online wholesale retailer, but again, your mileage may vary. If you see a deal online or from a local retailer that seems too good to be true, it may be because they’re trying to sell off outdated equipment. Considering the fact that solar has been around for over 25 years, the last thing you want is a retro panel that will be much less efficient.

What about online solar kits?

Online solar kits are emerging into the marketplace; however, solar manufacturers haven’t yet tailored them to meet the needs of the average solar buyer. Many solar kits are only available in large quantities, which may work for local installers working on multiple homes but would be unnecessary for a single installation. Plus, the process of installing solar from start to finish has several steps, including designing the arrays to fit your roof, filing for permission from your utility, and completing the electrical work. DIY solar projects should really only be performed by someone with an electrical background.

What is the most cost-effective way to go solar?

Even though it may cost more upfront, hiring a solar installer can save you time, money, and even your sanity. A skilled solar installer can handle the job and take care of any necessary paperwork. An established solar company (such as yours truly) can take you through each step of the solar journey and make sure your new solar energy system is safely installed and running in a timely manner. One additional perk of working with an installer: they can help you determine if there are any tax incentives, rebates, or state programs you qualify for.

Plus, it’s hard to beat their knowledge, experience, and warranties.
